Welcome to School of Computing and Information Technologies (SCIT)

Message from the Director

Welcome to the school of Computing and Information Technologies (SCIT) at The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K). The School of Computing offers market-driven academic programs from Certificate to Ph.D. level with an objective to transform our students to responsible graduates who are problem solvers in the society. The school is one of the fastest growing schools in TU-K attracting learners who come either fresh from high schools or those already with a background from other disciplines who have a passion for “ICT”. We are committed to offering our students and stakeholders excellent customer service, excellent teaching using impactful approaches and methodologies such as case-based teaching and problem-based learning. Moreover, we expose our learners to the latest technologies. In close collaboration with the industry partners, our students get inducted to the real world of IT projects while still in campus. True to TU-K’s philosophy of developing holistic graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for the real-world of work, the school of computing has a tradition of focusing on skills development based on sound theoretical underpinnings and exhibited through demonstration of skills in the studied fields.

Our graduates work in a wide range of industries such as:

  • IT Startup companies
  • Computing and IT firms
  • Engineering firms
  • Telecommunications firms
  • Banking
  • Networking firms
  • Research institutions

From the innovativeness platform provided at the TU-K, the graduates from the school of computing are among innovators who have launched their innovation startups and have been recognized locally and internationally for the solutions they provide. Upon graduation, other graduates have gone ahead to pursue careers as:

  • Software developers (Mobile, Web, Enterprise-wide systems, gaming, specialized software development, etc)
  • Network engineers
  • Management consultants
  • Fabrication (Assembly of electronics components and configuration, embedded software development, etc)
  • Business analysts
  • Business development executives
  • Researchers

The school is keen on collaborations both locally and internationally. The rationale for this is that we want the school to be at the forefront of emerging technologies and continue to offer relevant programs to the learners. From the industry partners, we get students exposed to real-life work experiences. Teh school offers our partners solutions with fresh perspectives from the young and dynamic generation represented by our students. Our research endeavors have seen the school partner with several blue-chip companies and execute work packages of internationally funded projects. These have brought inter-disciplinary knowledge exchange with Engineering, Agriculture, Health, Climate change, Basic Sciences, space technologies to name but a few. The school continues to expand the range of offered programs and we shall soon be launching postgraduate courses in the areas of computer engineering technologies, applied computer science, computational engineering and computational science, data analytics and artificial intelligence. We believe these are the technologies of the future professionals in our area and will contribute to the current and future dialogues for making Kenya a globally competitive and prosperous Nation as envisioned in our motherland’s vision 2030 development blueprint.
